Once again reaching out to the community, Cormode & Dickson served as the title sponsor of the 26th Youth Unlimited Golf Challenge, on June 2nd, 2014. Youth Unlimited Edmonton has been reaching out to the youth of Edmonton for thirty years. A not-for-profit charity, YU’s goal is to influence the lives of the at-risk and marginalized youth of our area by building strong mentoring relationships. By giving the youth of Edmonton the ways and means to discover their potential, YU strives to imbue them with hope—not just for their own future, but for the future of their communities. As their Vision Statement says, “One by one, Youth Unlimited will be helping create a youth culture of encouragement, hope, realized potential, and positive social contribution.”

Ben Elzen serves as Board Chair of Youth Unlimited Edmonton. So it comes as no surprise that Cormode & Dickson were the title sponsor for this year’s YU Golf Challenge! Held at the esteemed Highlands Golf Club in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, participants enjoyed a continental breakfast, a rib eye dinner and dozens of prizes and giveaways.

Through this event YU raised $63,000! The monies are already allotted for two amazing projects. One such project is a drop-in centre for youth in the Millbourne area of Mill Woods. The centre already exists but needs renovation and more full-time staff. It will be one of the only places available to youth in the area, and will have a gymnasium, café, kitchen, recording studio and more.

The other project underway is an additional house for Stepping Stones—a program to aid pregnant and parenting youth, to offer hope and support. Stepping Stones already operates a house in the south end of Edmonton, but recognizes most of the girls in the program live in the north end. With the aid of the money raised by the Golf Challenge a more accessible house located in north Edmonton will be procured and made ready to be a source of comfort, safety and help for young mothers.

Cormode and Dickson is grateful to have played a part in this year’s Youth Unlimited Golf Challenge—to have recognized a need and to have helped fill it by donating to the nurturing and growth of Edmonton’s youth.

We look forward to next year…come join us!

“We see the hope and potential in every young person”
