Temporary Modular Buildings

Construction companies, when they are out at a remote construction site, need to have facilities to accommodate the labourers and the builders for the duration of the construction. Having tents out in the open is an option but then tents cannot be reliable in remote areas if the weather changes its plans. There has to be a proper solution to facilitate the workers in the construction zone. So when other makeshift ideas fail, having temporary relocatable buildings for accommodation in remote areas can be a brighter idea.

In recent times people have had a lot of trouble with construction and the problems of space allocation. But the development of technology and human thinking capability had brought forth the solution to this problem years ago. The solution was modular construction. Having a building that can be detached from the location piece by piece and relocating it is the reason why temporary modern buildings are a solution for lack of construction material and reuse of a building once it has no use at a location.

What are Modular Buildings?

The history of modular construction dates back to the second world war. After the war had ended, the troops came back to America. But during the time of war and recession, traditional construction was out of option for the returning troops who wanted to settle down and have families. So when traditional construction prices were sky high, the idea of constructing homes using prefabricated parts came into view. In those times modular buildings used to be self assemble home building kits that were sold as a whole and the building was assembled at the location using parts that were attached. In recent times, modular construction has reached various sectors where people are opting for modular construction than wasting time on conventional construction projects. Modular buildings are popular because of the ability to be relocated using trucks and can be assembled at the new location again with minimal cost as there are just prefabricated parts that are attached to build a structure.

Where are Modular Buildings Used?

After the initiation of the modular construction industry in the 1940s, there has been a rise in the use of modular construction for a lot of industrial sectors and personal home building. Temporary modern buildings are being used for erecting office spaces by a new business to save time and money that is wasted on the conventional construction process. There are industrial sectors that are now completely relying on temporary modular buildings for their construction.

Construction Industry

It is quite ironical that the conventional construction industry is using temporary modular buildings for their projects. When construction companies go out on projects at a remote location, they are supposed to keep their workers and overseers at the same place until the construction is complete. Modular construction provides for the accommodation of the workers. Since modular structures are not constructed on the spot where it is required, the prefabricated parts and modules of the structures can be carried to the location and assembled with ease and then removed to be relocated at the next construction project. In the absence of temporary modular buildings, the construction might have to transport all the workers and the machinery to the location every day. So modular construction saves a lot for the construction company and also prevents the use of precious fossil fuels.

Industrial Complexes

When it comes to construction of office complexes and industrial buildings, modular construction becomes the quickest and pocket-friendly solution for new companies and small factories. Business owners are readily choosing temporary modular buildings for their office spaces. When starting up a business, there is an urge to starting things quickly while saving as much capital that can be saved. The cost and time efficiency of modular construction makes it a favorable choice for people trying to get an office space in a short timespan.

Forestry

The Timberwood and forest departments benefit from temporary modular buildings as well. Wood-cutters and saw operators have to spend days on end in the forest. In such an environment, shelter from the harsh weather and the forest itself is necessary. To provide the required accommodation, modular buildings are used by the forestry industry. With more developments in modular construction, soundproofed modules are available that dumb down the sounds of the machinery and sawing outside the structure.

Health and Hospitality

The health sector has been using modular construction for a while now, the reason being the quick assembly of the modules and relocatable buildings. Some organizations are required to go to places with lesser amenities to take care of the human population in some untouched areas or in times of emergency. In those times, there is a need for a construction method that takes minimum time to be erected and can provide for the quality of construction needed to contain the medical issues inside the chambers. Modular structures have been readied for medical purposes with proper ventilation systems and insulation that gives comfort to both doctors and patients.

How are Modular Buildings Constructed?

Modular construction has two kinds of designs being used. Temporary modular buildings and permanent modular structures. More than 80% of the construction for both the structures are done inside a factory that is located far away from the actual location of construction. Modular building companies use assembly lines for the fabrication process. The modules are constructed in parts. For example, the walls are constructed separately from the floor and roofing. When the parts are finished in the factory, they are either transported in sections or all the parts are taken to the location and are then assembled on the foundation laid at the location. If the building is being used temporarily, the modules are manufactured with more stable flooring that can be used at different locations and settings.

Modular construction is reliably the most sustainable option for construction. The things that the modular construction industry has developed over time has aided a lot of industries and people to have homes and structures within their budget and time frame.
